Canada chose to take two male born people for their male and female entries for Olympic archery. Tell me again about how there's no threat to the integrity of women's sport.

[There's separate archery categories? Is that because they've taken one look at any men's toilet in a pub and figured their aim is particularly suspect? But seriously, I don't see why men should be better at aiming at a target than women here] |

[Perhaps the target is closer (for the men, based on toilet behaviours!) ] I'm guessing weight/power of bow comes into it somewhere, though. |

[I guess I don't really know much about archery. When I tried it as a tiny Cub Scout, many, many years ago, I had not the aim, the coordination, nor the wherewithal to even get the arrow off the bow...]

[Someone who is 6'1" tall and has gone through male puberty, as Stephanie Barrett has (current age 42, transitioned at age 33) will have longer arms and a stronger upper body than most women, and those factors affect the size of bow and level of resistance they can handle. I'm led to understand (maybe someone who is more familiar with archery can comment) that being able to handle a large bow with tighter string confers a significant advantage with regard to hitting a target accurately. Regardless, a woman has been denied the opportunity to compete at the Olympics due to Ms Barrett's selection.]

(Ms Barett IS a woman ffs, and will have lost significant muscle mass since transition as well as having to cope with, and hopefully heal from to some extent, the huge psychological trauma associated that process)

[Nope, Ms Barrett is not a woman and it's a massive injustice that middle aged male-bodied people are being permitted to displace female athletes from women's sporting events.]

(I'd offer to agree to disagree, except for my concern that statements like that contribute to an atmosphere that deters women already facing barriers that cis folk can only imagine from being being able to enjoy the essential physical and mental health benefits of sport. Transwomen are women, and are welcome)
