Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

M25 blocked/closed this evening. Journey back from Essex (38 miles, normally about an hour), taking three-and-a-half hours in a solid traffic jam along the A13 between Tilbury and the Blackwall Tunnel.

Eventually got home at 10.30 pm with a tired wife (who was driving) and two very grumpy teenagers.

Adverts. Radio and TV. All of them.

I'm aware that they help to pay for the services that they are broadcasted on but they annoy the hell out of me.

Why do TV reporters and cameramen have to been sent to be live in dangerous situations. Absolutely no need to have a reporter and cameraman on a beach in Greece while fires are raging and everyone is trying to flee.

...or, similarly, to be standing outside somewhere like 10 Downing Street for the 10pm News to talk about a govt announcement that happened at midday. Being Live at the Scene when nothing is happening doesn't make it more important.

(my 'favourite' example of this was the story of Derek Bentley, who was hanged in the 50s for the murder of a policeman but this was quashed in the 90s. ITV had a reporter at the murder scene - which was a warehouse that had long since been demolished. So the reporter was standing Live at the Scene of something that had happened 45 years previously and from a scene that no longer existed)

[See also - the idiotic time the reporter waited outside a hospital when one of William & Kate's sprogs was being born. Had nothing to say, so gave a long piece to camera of total filler. Moronic.

And also - the habit of sending weathermen/women out into horrendous weather, or into the freezing cold to present their segment.]
