Journey back from Essex (38 miles, normally about an hour), taking three-and-a-half hours in a solid traffic jam along the A13 between Tilbury and the Blackwall Tunnel. Eventually got home at 10.30 pm with a tired wife (who was driving) and two very grumpy teenagers.

Being Live at the Scene when nothing is happening doesn't make it more important. (my 'favourite' example of this was the story of Derek Bentley, who was hanged in the 50s for the murder of a policeman but this was quashed in the 90s. ITV had a reporter at the murder scene - which was a warehouse that had long since been demolished. So the reporter was standing Live at the Scene of something that had happened 45 years previously and from a scene that no longer existed)
