Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Awful arithmetic:

The 888 new recorded daily deaths mark a slight drop from yesterday, when 847 were reported, (Guardian, but will probably be corrected before very long)

It has now been corrected.

The Guardian is not the only news organisation with staff incapable of looking at two numbers and spotting which is larger.

My bank, with whom I hold a credit card account and have for years which is currently in a small amount of credit (didn't change a standing order in time when I paid it off).
I wanted to balance transfer from a more expensive card so I can pay it off. The bank say unless they send me an offer, I can't apply for a balance transfer. So I have the facility to spend X sitting there, and that's fine, but paying them interest instead of Bank B is not.
This has really pissed me off today.

I doubt it's the first time this one has come up on this thread but...

Runners who give no thanks, not even a nod of acknowledgement, when I run in the road so they can have the narrow pavement.

Yes, even when I'm facing the oncoming traffic so it's the right thing for *me* to take to the road from a safety / good sense / countrysoide coade point of view. Yes, even then. Good manners cost nothing you selfish, ignorant, rude arseholes!

I usually sing out ‘you’re welcome!’ in that situation. Hopefully embarrassing them enough to thank the next person :)

I usually go for "you're welcome" too, usually adding something quite rude on the end...
