Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Christmas facisim, would that even exist? Surely you'd just cancel it and make everyone work it instead 😂

I don't mean everyone must love all of it, that would be impossible 😂

Only that there are some folk who seem to like banging on about how much they hate it all and how they'd rather be at work. Fine ok if you hate it, just don't tell me about it 100 times and expect me to be impressed by your anti-Christmas rants or think I should apologise because I enjoy it and am looking forward to it.

My gear grinder comes from someone at work who is like this and just always gets everyone to agree with her how awful it all is!

Being negative & cynical is a thing now tho isn't it J?

I love Christmas, I love all it represents and I can't even get too grumpy about celebrations beginning before 12th night. In fact for appalling years like this one, it's making life a bit easier to escape into thinking about Christmas. So tonight I'm going to crack open the Advocaat and have me a almost-Advent snowball.

I'm assuming they are the same sycophants who were on Radio 1 twenty years ago and have been migrated to Radio 2 along with the DJs

I've been cynical all my life, it's a personality trait. It is extremely disconcerting to find that it's now A Thing.

You're not negative tho are you Carp? A degree of cynicism is healthy. It's the folk who adopt the 'I'm against everything' stance with it is as their defining personality trait.

I work with someone who sees problems with everything. It does my head in, but the rest of us are big-picture, broad-brush optimists so we need the reliably negative voice for balance.
