I hate the consurmeriatic element of Christmas & the enforced bonhomie. I really hate being forced to attend works Christmas dose & spend time with people I have no desire to spend any social time with. However, anyone who says they'd rather work than be off for Christmas either lacks imagination or is very sad. Who'd rather work than have time off?

Fragile Do Not Bend
I would like Christmas more if it wasn't for Christmas presents. I struggle to think of anything to ask for, and so do my relatives. Yet when I suggest that we don't buy each other presents my folks insist that it's nice to have something to open on Christmas Day.
I really really hate present shopping and if it was up to me, I'd just get gifts for my little niece & nephew and nobody else.

I quite like working the bit between Christmas and New Year because
a) there's no-one else much in the office b) I can get some actual work done c) the weather's usually crap anyway

I'm being made redundant on the Friday before Christmas, so intend to enjoy the not-having-to-go-back-to-work feeling to the max.
I'm now trying to figure out the "not before 12th Night" bit...

"This programme contains strong language, scenes of a sexual nature, flashing images, adult themes, scenes that some viewers might find disturbing, scenes of drug use, scenes of violence, etc"
I could understand it if Songs of Praise was doing an article on drug addicted, prostitutes with tourette's but if I'm sitting down to watch TV drama at 10:00pm, I don't need told it contains strong language. It's 2016 FFS, if you don't want to see a programme with things in it, DON'T WATCH THE TV.

Thanks z1000jeff - might take that idea and pitch it to a few people, think it's got legs. The hymns'll be a bit tricky though !

I hope you are getting a generous pay-off and that life is better after redundancy.
