Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

I wish they'd put me on thyroxine ages ago, it was like someone flicked a switch from the first tablet onwards last week. I'm only on a small dose but I feel much more alert and can get up after 7.5-8 hours of sleep without feeling like death warmed over. I still have a bit of an afternoon slump but it is less than before. I'm a happy woman!! :-)

Hi all

I was diagnosed with an under active thyroid about 20 years ago and am on 200 mcg of thyroxine, which is a complete replacement dosage rather than a supplemental one.

Cuddy, you were very lucky that you felt better from the first tablet, for those that don't, hang in there, it took ages for my dosage to be correct in it's treatment. Originally I had blood tests every six weeks, then every three months, then six monthly and am now on an annual test.

Thanks for sharing RD :)

And hurrah for feeling more alive Cuddy :)

I'm getting some sparkle back, hadn't realised how much it was missing, even hubby says i'm more like me again :)

And that's only 4 weeks in, blood test and review in 2 weeks, and I work in a hospital so can get my blood taken at work

That's great news NSC.

For me it's very difficult to determine whether it's the thyroid problem, depression or migraine problems that make me tired! Written like that I do seem like an old crock!

I still don't feel as I used to, and am very overweight but at least my tests come back ok each time now.

Reading this, I think I could do with getting my Thyroid tested. For the last 8 months I have been feeling like I have lost my spark a bit and can't put my finger on why, but the main thing that is really getting to me is feeling so uncomfotably cold all the time. I thought it was just the cold winter, but it hasn't got better. It's like, cold deep inside me, as well as my hands a feet feeling cold to touch. The only time this year I've been comfortable was during the 'heat wave', and now it's gone down to 25 again I'm shivering again. If I drink a glass of water from the tap without adding some boiling water to it, or eat salad from the fridge, it takes me about an hour to warm up again afterwards.

I can't stand going to the doctors with random silly little symptoms like this, but I think am going to need to get a grip and make an appointment as I'm dreading another winter :-(

Hi Krisse!
Yes I absolutely hate winter too. Go see the GP and ask for a blood test. It was really quick diagnosis with me. I don't really feel the cold that badly but my hands and feet are constantly cold. I thought it was just bad circulation. It is a bonus in the heat wave though ;-)

This will be my first winter on the Thyroxine so it'll be interesting to see what happens.

I don't get it. I got put on thyroxine and felt so peppy from the start...but now only a few weeks later it's like I've 'relapsed' and I'm getting really tired again. Pah. I am scheduled for another blood test now so will be interesting to see what's happened.
