If they think you can't cycle hard because you're a veggie, Hann, just say 'Robert Millar'

We are all different, where someone may need two liters of drink, someone alse only needs one... I don't sweat very much, be that good or bad, it is what it is... so that is perhaps the reaosn why I don't need to drink that much during exercise. Also, I drink well all day and am permanently well hydrated, so again, no need to go over the top while riding. I know the risks of over-hydration all too well!!!

Excellent idea Slowboy... I am going to look up some veggie high class athletes... I actually started to feel a LOT better when I stopped eating meat and fish, as well as having much higher energy levels and a much better recovery. I actaully am much much more aware of what I eat and its nutritional value and quality then when I ate meat... when one thinks meat and some spuds and a bit of veg occasionally is enough! My diet now is much richer in nutrients and much more varied than it ever was before I became a veggie...

HAN
if you had read my entire post you would have noticed that I also explained I DO NOT use protein during exercise.
but to perform better during 2.5 hours of training you need to be better hydrated and fueled. Being better hydrated and fueled means you will recover better.
BUT AS USUAL I HAVE NO IDEA WHY I EVEN ANSWERED YOUR QUESTION BECAUSE AS USUAL YOU ARE AN ARROGANT KNOW IT ALL.

I did notice that you do not use protein during exercise Gobi, I subsequently also said that i do use gels and energy drink during longer exercise.
The question I have really is the place of protein supplements in a healthy diet...
Slowboy has understood what the issue is: they think that, because I am a vegetarian, I am lacking protein in my diet and should therefore be drinking protein shakes and add protein powder to my food and the like. I am questioning the necessity and even the benefit of this, as my protein intake is actually quite high already... Problem is, a lot of people think protein = meat, and I don't mean you Gobi, because I know you know better than that.
I think it is wrong to assume a vegetarian lacks protein and should therefore take supplements to perform better without having even asked what his/her diet is like!
