Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Oscar's Everyone Day

Sunday 22nd June 2025
In 2021 Oscar the Grouch proposed one day each year where "we unite as a community and EVERYONE records an activity of some sort - a dog walk, a run, a swim, a ride, ski if you want...".

Sadly we lost Oscar in March 2024, so now we dedicate Everyone Day to him. Thank you for the inspiration you gave us Oscar.

Shades, probably I’ve said before, but the running here is very different to home. Cycle paths everywhere so apart from probably less than 0.5 miles today I was on cycle paths, off the road, with bridges or underpasses bypassing the roads. Really good.

It’s still dark here at 8am, so delayed my run very slightly, which worked well as I dodged the dozens of school kids cycling to the school I run past :)

The parkrun course could be a fast one for the right person in good conditions. A good surface for the vast majority of it and flat obviously, but some very sharp corners, and 3 laps. Looking forward to it. Don’t know yet if I’m doing it tomorrow or the week after - depends on other plans.

Strava’s not that impressed with my elevation from today’s run :) Surprised it’s even 95ft but there were some underpasses so maybe it’s from that.

WP - good you were OK to run today.

Big G - amazed that strava can't recognise that you're in a very different location. 🤣

Definitely significantly below your normal elevation for a run.

Legs/glutes session at gym. Upped the weights on the exercise that is particularly tough on my quads. Was pleased until I got on the bike at the end of the session and my legs wouldn't work. Only managed 2km on the bike and a tired walk home. 😢

Big G - never heard you mention clothes shopping before, except for running stuff, of course 😉😉

Running rest day today. My legs feel OK this morning but probably wouldn't appreciate a run.

Up early, turkey crown in the oven so will cook on cheaper electricity before I go for my food shop.

Gym later, upper body today.

WP - turkey cooked and smells delicious. Nice bit if stock too for the gravy.

Was at Aldi for 7 a.m., out at 7:20 but they had no Xmas veg as the delivery lorry hadn't arrived. The cashier said it might be the same lorry that supplies the Aldi nearer to me so called into Sainsburys on the way home. Had to pay 15p a bag, would have been an extra £3 if I didn't have a Nectar card (such a rip off). Anyway spent a total of 60p in Sainsburys 🤣.

We've got a weather warning about the wind too tomorrow morning, gusts up to 48mph so not so bad as your area. I'll go out when it's daylight as usual.

Will there be turkey on the menu today?

Shame on 8p veg in Aldi ,It was the same in tesco without Clubcard you paid full price.I just called to Lidl post run and got 2 bags potatoes 16p in total. There was a sign up max of 3 bags of each veg.

Run was crap legs were not right and pace slow so binned run at 2.5 miles.Hopefully another day and all will be well.

I will also go out and hope conditions and legs are good.

Poor OH is dying in bed with cold.

Went and did Wezenlanden parkrun today, and ran the 2 miles there and back. I did recce the course yesterday just to see what shoes would be needed and I wore my Nike Pegasus as they’ve got a bit more grip in the corners and where there were a few wet leaves.

Put a bit of effort and a bit disappointed not to get closer to 21mins as I went out with that in mind. Splits of 6:51, 6:55 and 6:59 with the last bit at 6:41 pace. Possibly lost 5 secs on the sharp corners, but no more, so finish time of 21:28 is basically where I am. In fairness that is my quickest parkrun at any event for the whole of 2023 and 2024, so it’s fine. Just want to get closer to 21!

A small, 3-lap, flat event and I was 7th out of 36 runners, on their 16th event.

That’s my 60th different parkrun location.

WP - I'm just home from the gym and scoffed a couple of slices of turkey, instead of the planned cottage cheese 🤣.
I'll have some more tonight for dinner too. It is really tasty, one of the best I've ever had. So easy to reach my protein target when there's turkey to eat 😋

I didn't feel I'd been robbed having to pay 15p a bag this morning, still a fantastic bargain.

Just as well you shortened your run as you have a cold too. Sorry to hear OH is feeling really poorly with it.

Big G - I don't think you should be disappointed having just clocked your best time for 2 years, well done. Shows your training is paying off.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon. Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
