Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

It seems we'd been wrong to ignore the crows we've been seeing on our runs and walks in Lanza, according to a local guide. They're a bit special here and counted in units less than 10. So I need to take photos.

In other news, on a walk to Quemada, a pair of Trumpeter Finches

And once in Quemada, 2 more titchy Sandpipers. No sign of the whimbrel or little egret, although it was an hour before high tide. Need to go back at low tide.

And one of my attempts at one of the many martins

I couldn't find it either!

More on the cattle egret!
I left the big lens on the camera as we walked down to the marina area for dinner.
And a win! It was there!

Although so were three of it's mates. As well as, according to Off Roader, the very original one (crest and colouring)

Lots more photos ... but then dinner (carbonare tagliatelli for me, lasagne for Off Roader, no pics) and on the way back up the hill ... not one, not four, but 8, yes 8!, cattle egrets. But by now (8:30pm ish), pretty dark, so not the best light

(not all 8 came out, but 8 were there)

Glad I took took the proper lens!

More Lanza birds today.
On our morning run, so sorry for the pic quality

I think (well, google does) that's a Great Grey Shrike. A first for me.

Next up, in Playa del Carmen, a photogenic whimbrel. You'll see more when I blog next week ...

Also surprisingly, for me, quite a few turnstones, in the marina and along the walk back to Puerto Calero

And another first, a small brown bird is a big brown stony 'desert'. Seems it's a Berthelot's Pipit. More like a road runner (although titchy), it was running around everywhere, very fast.

And, from a clifftop, a little long combed egret

And to finish, I think a road skimming barn swallow

It just didn’t scream whimbrel to me but scale is everything if the bird is not calling. I doubt anyone ever called a curlew petit so you’re probably right ;-)
