Am I the only one who slows down during a run when I hear a bird which sounds mildly interesting? Or even stops for a proper look if I cant actually see it? Or how falls over the kerb/into the ditch looking up into the sky at something which *could* be unusual (but never is)?

I dont mean proper twitchers who drive hundreds of miles out of their way to see a bird which has been blown off-course and call their 'noculars 'bins'. I mean people who are still excited to see a goldfinch on their birdfeeder.

Bet its just me!

Me too :-) - got bird feeders all over the garden, and then feel guilty when they run out of food. Probably won't feel the same when I've got my seedlings in the garden though ;-)

You want to watch out for fat pigeons though.

Lyra OK
Old Croc, might they be red kites? rspb.org.uk They're incredible to watch.

Saw a marsh harrier out on a club run once - a pair of them. Never too busy running to check out the local wildlife.

I have been known to stop during an orienteering event (so a proper race-type situation) to look at particularly interesting plants or insects.

Feel better about yourself now? Yup. Thought so.

Lyra - thanks for that link - more like Buzzards as it happens - one flew alongside me when training last summer - what an experience that was to see it - only about 40 feet away just swooped along side as I rode along

You know something, I do feel better thanks RooA :)
And I always feel better too if I see a nice bird or summat wildlife-y along my running routes.

Not the only one. Saw one of these birding.in in Majorca at Christmas and chased it to get a better look!
