Wrong camera today. But there again, I wouldn't have been there if I'd gone out with the big lens. 1/2 mile from the end of my 5 mile run, a buzzard on the top of the dead tree |

Had very clear calls, especially the first set, of tawny owls on at least 4 occasions in different locations during tonight's run. Not sure whether it could have been the same each time, though doubt some of them were. I think especially the first call and probably the second set of calls, were two owls. Guessing from what someone posted before that these could be youngsters trying to find new territory. And had the joy of an egret pooing all over the car on the way to the run. Thought it looked strange in flight before the huge splatter all over the roof, windscreen, bonnet and wing mirror. Never seen such mess before. |

I took the new camera to Keyhaven yesterday to test it out. Seems to work, lots spotted although I missed the Dartford Warbler someone claimed to have seen. There was a small gathering at one point. All with lot bigger lenses than mine. Watching a 'fairly tame' ruff. Tame in the sense it ignored the photographers 10m away or so. Apparently there's 4 there, but only this one today. Will blog the full trip in a few days. And it may take a few days to blog. 400 pics taken, 150 'good enough' to share! |

Youngest got a lifetime spot of a lesser yellowlegs yesterday - blown into Cornwall by the storms from North America. In more mundane news, happy to report that Mr HB (and I) finally found a dipper as we were leaving the Lakes last Saturday morning |

I filled the bird feeder just before hanging out some washing. While I was pegging the washing a sparrowhawk came and took a starling. Much squeaking in the hedge, then silence. It popped onto the lawn to get a grip and then went off.

I’ve been to Barnsley today and saw a kestrel. It felt kind of appropriate
