Great latish Fieldfares Kinky. Believe it or not I've not seen any hirundines at all yet. Nothing much around this morning apart from the usuals..Blackcap (10 singing), Chiffchaff (4 singing) Cettis (of course!) and the resident songsters. |

We have had a “female” blackbird in our garden for the last couple of weeks. She is fully grown, and normal adult female plumage but has a yellow beak. I’ve not found any references anywhere to females with yellow beaks and ordered if anyone else had any knowledge of this anomaly. |

pretty sure females do have a "mucky yellow" beak with iirc darker marking towards the head.

Disturbed a large bird on today's walk - and looking for help. I assume it's a buzzard, or is it a kite? Or something else? All very buzzard like, except the tail. But it was climbing and moving away, not gliding or soaring in circles. We do commonly see both, but normally very easy to tell which is which. Thanks ! |

I’d say that it is a kite. They have a very distinctive triangular tail.

The light feather band just inboard of the dark wing tip feathers makes me more sure.

The barn where the swallows usually nest has a horse field next to it. At the moment there's sheep in this field and I heard some of them had wandered into the barn. I wonder if it's put the swallows off going in there to nest.
