Homer
i AM going to do all 3 this year or bust myself trying though to be honest I am not sure that they are complimentary goals and the shorter ones are taking priority |

I'd forgotten that R in Core SPR meant that you might actually agree with me! I've got a bit of a mental block on 10K. 5K is just push hard the whole way and it's all pain but it's short. Half marathon and longer gives you times you can recover and get in a rythm and be comfortable. But 10K is too long to push full tilt the whole way (for me) but too short to be able to get away with going comfortably at any point. I haven't really got the hang of it! Of course to get the hang of them, I'd actually have to do some! I've really only done one proper road 10K! :-)G |

Yeah Homer, that's what I was thinking - 10K sub 40 seems slightly "at odds" with a marathon pace goal. But what do I know?! :-)G

Happy, your 2nd last post has struck home for me and makes sense. On a 5k I have learnt to be more out of my comfort zone. I think I need to learn to do the same at 10k. we seem to be meeting on a lot of similar training goals |

I like the cut of your jib Homer. Err I think thats called PMA (some old lucozade advert I think). It is good to put yourself under a little bit of pressure, especially in front of loads of people ![]() Keeps you motivated. |

HG - try this calculator ftp4.dns-systems.net Your 5:30 mile time puts you well under 40 mins, so, yes, it IS psychological. And you CAN do it. Sorry about the hidden ad in there (it's new). But it looks good for an HM time too. |

Yeah, I was thinking that Homer - there are quite a few folk at the 5:30 mile, sub 20 5K trying for sub 40 10K and sub 1:30 half and 3:30 mara. Must be a common point in training/trying in this running lark. _andy, you are right, it is partly psychological, but I think there is also a physiological element. I can do hard and fast (ask my GF, fnar!). I used to be best at 100m and I was a wing/full back/centre in rugby, so short bursts of puke making action suited me. Long distance is new to me and I find it's a mental discipline. But 10K is that horrible middle ground of too long to call endurance but too short to just plod round! But I'll get there. It is the distance I run 2-3 times a week, after all, with the club or on my own. I ought to be able to get it sorted!! Not too worried about it though, as you might have guessed! :-)G |

Actually Homer, you are much closer than me - I just noticed you've got a sub 19 5K (wow!) and 42 10K and 1:31 half. You are a notch or two faster than me at all those distances. So I shall watch your progress and success with interest adn shamelessly felch all your training and lessons!! :-)G

HG McMillan has it at touch and go for your mile time but its your 5k time you need to get down so more tempo/ aerobic runs it looks like... mcmillanrunning.com |
