I have just asked my unofficial supervisor if I can change the focus of my dissertation completely. I came back to it after a break. I hadn't asked for any time out, but as I work for the institution at which I'm also registered as a student, someone in the Registry must have taken pity on me as the first Covid lockdown struck and put me on a partial year out. I'm very grateful, as I didn't get any research done during that time. Coming back to it this morning, I became painfully aware of how difficult it would be to complete when I'm not able to visit the other collections which would be useful; even checking references probably wouldn't be possible either. I have to write a proposal for the new version, so it can go through the proper channels, but we think it might be possible, which makes me happy instead of fretting.
