Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Stain removal help please!

Chemistry - let the more reactive metal (aluminium) steal the oxygen from the less reactive one (iron)
Works well on corroded (oxidised) silver - can't say I've tried it on rust on fabrics, but in principle it should work

and iron is slightly soluble in water, iron oxide has v little solubility -

It might work (aluminium oxide is white, so shouldn't stain a white fabric visibly)

The lemon juice and sunlight definitely made a big difference. It hasn't gone completely but it is much, much fainter. I tried again the next day and there was no perceptible difference.

I also tried Stain Devils Rust remover on another patch which hadn't had the lemon juice treatment, and I think it had some effect but not as much as the lemon/sunlight one.

I couldn't find any Bio-tex but soaked the second patch in Vanish Oxi-action and that's helped.

Having washed the shawl several times now I think it's in an acceptable state :-) *I* know where the (now very faint) stains are, but it would easily escape the notice of anyone else.
Thank you, everyone who has commented!
