i dont think a sprint is a halfway house. i think if you can't swim, and you've never ridden a road bike, then its bloody hard training.

Sprint is a good fun and decent challenge.

Just look at Blenheim lots of people turn up unprepared

I am slightly worried by this thread. I am hoping to do a novice in about 2 weeks. Will this lead to a sprint and inevitably a bloody Ironman?? Can someone remind me of distances for a sprint btw (yes I am that clueless hence the novice tri :)) Oh and I have a pool swim for mine but its an open air, salt water pool which will be interesting!!

My ex did an Ironman in Austria and he was f*ckin mental. I will not become that mental....not ever!! Besides I only fell into this because of an ITB injury which meant I couldn't run but could swim and cycle. Did 8 mile cycle (easy) and 3 mile run (bloomin painful) today and can't see me running any further.

ST - I've just done a sprint tri, I don't mean to say it's an easy option. What I'm trying to carve out is a place for new and nearly-new triathletes to share their learnings in a place that's somewhere in between "people who don't do triathlon", and "people who completely live for triathlon".

Mr Fetch Sir, I loved the newsletter this week. Made me think of aspects of the tri I hadn't considered. I am now more nervous about the swim mnd. I am a strong swimmer but all this tapping of feet and several people in a lane makes me nervous. I never choose to go in a lane at the pool normally in case I hold someone up or they slow me down - at least I now know what to expect and some of the etiquette. So in short....thanks!!!
