Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Ian - hope you have a pleasant journey to SA tomorrow.

Have just come back to the hotel to dump some shopping and rest a little while. Trying not to do too much walking today.

Popped into the Expo, it's only small but buzzing with runners. Managed to find 3 t-shirts, €10 for the 3.

Back niggling from the walking, might be a DNS for tomorrow. Have bought 2 scones for a pre breakfast breakfast in the morning if I do decide to take part.

Shades knew you couldn’t resist the shirts, hope you feel you can get round tomorrow. You must have made an impression on the hotel staff.

Big g well done on another parkrun

Ian safe travels, good sign the parkrun felt comfortable

Keith you do well with the nutrition side of running 😉

WP sensible to curtail the run, hope you’re feel better.

On the train back! Knackered… 6 miles to heaton parkrun, was thinking of plodding parkrun then looked at some of my older times. 25:48 was my fastest in 2019. Didn’t know until I got there but it was a pacer week, decided to start with the 26 min pacer and see how it went. Didn’t look at watch and kept the 25 min pacer in my sight, passed him with just over a km to go. Stayed fairly comfortable and finished in 24:35.

Busy day in Manchester, total distance on foot, 35km! Tomorrow will probably be a rest day (elle will have other ideas)

Rob - well done, all that training is paying off with your parkrun time.

That's a fair distance to cover in one day, when not doing a long run or marathon.

I slept OK until 2 a.m. then my back niggled for the rest if the night. I've decided not to do the marathon today, I think I would struggle and it would be a pretty miserable experience.

I will go and watch the marathon, the finish is same place as the start at the main shopping street, just a few minutes walk from here.

I had haddock and chips from the chip shop across the road from my hotel. It was the best I've eaten for years, huge piece of fish that was really fresh.

Good luck Keith today, hope the marathon goes well.

Xpost WP, I'm a DNS today.

Hope you're feeling better today.

I'm not planning to go to breakfast for a couple of hours so I've just eaten one if the scones. Pear and almond, really nice, 😋

Shades sensible decision to DNS better than a DNF or a bad experience. Even though it’s 8am fish and chips now sounds amazing.

Had to put a sprint on from Euston to Finsbury Park with my luggage. Nice bit of ocr as my ticket wouldn’t go through the barriers so had to chuck myself and the luggage under them. Took the wrong exit at Finsbury Park and had to use the spiral staircase up to the platform…. Made the train with 45 secs to spare.

Washing on now and then rest.

Rob - phew, nice bit of cross training to make that train.

Not the view of the marathon I'd hoped for today....

This is from my hotel room.

Shades as Rob has said best decision as you would not want a bad experience.I know a hard decision but the right one. The scone sounded delicious as did the fish and chips and I don't eat fish ;-)

Rob That sounds like a close shave with barriers and trains.

I am still not right but went out for short run and seemed about right around 45 minutes.RHR was up a fair bit but went by feel instead.

About This Thread

Maintained by Shades
Back in December 2005 I started a thread on Runner's World offering a marathon training plan on 3 runs a week. I had my own running club at the time (Womens Running Network) and I had successfully trialled the training plan when I took a group of girls to Dublin to run their first marathon. Over the years the thread has evolved into a chat thread, with a bit of training advice, race reports, for predominantly marathon runners.
