Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

There's only one way to resolve this spat.
um : Is ChatGPT really AI ?

chatbot : Yes, ChatGPT is an AI language model based on the GPT-3.5 architecture developed by OpenAI. It uses machine learning algorithms to analyze and understand natural language inputs, allowing it to generate responses to questions and engage in conversations with users. While ChatGPT is not a fully sentient or self-aware entity, it is an example of artificial intelligence that can perform a range of language-based tasks.

There you go then, computer says 'yes'.

Lol um. Is that what is called a circular argument?!

I'm always amazed that web crawler bots can't deal with the "I am not robot" tock box! It's like stairs beating the Daleks! :-) G

I can remember the first digital watches. They were accurate, but apart from that they were pretty crap. LCD watches could barely be read in the dark, LED watches couldn't be read at all in daylight.
Less than 50 years later, we've got LCD TV screens and LED headlights.
There were only 66 years between the first powered manned flight in 1903 and the first manned moon landing in 1969.
I find it amusing when people look at the current state of AI, or renewable energy, or electric cars, and say "I've spotted a fault with it, therefore it will never work"

PSV - exactly so! Well said. I'm a fun of tech and generally see it as opportunity for good rather than fear. :-) G

I've thrown a number of things into it and it's been very useful. Particularly when I asked it to write a formal email in a different language.

My wife uses it a lot for her work. She'll take the generated text, often make some tweeks and use it. Much simpler and faster than creating and putting together something yourself.

After weeks of trying to get into it, and it being down all the time, I actually managed to yesterday. What I really wanted to do was see what its potential was for students I teach not to do the work themselves. It would be pretty obvious that it wasn’t their own work. In some ways, it was very good in what it covered, but there were elements that were very poor, like referencing, alongside elements that were too advanced so it looked odd. Where it’s more use is coming up with ideas for activities in tutorials, and frameworks for PowerPoints, on topics I already know quite a bit about. I’ll definitely be using it for that.

Have we got a ChatGPT or other thread about fun content written by AI? We've got predictive text thread, but ChatGPT is way beyond that!

If you get any fun output from it, post here.
