I think it's pretty much a proven fact that the catholic church has been covering for it's priests when they get a bit "overenthusiastic" for decades. Successive popes have either been directly involved (sometimes prior to their election as pope) or aware of what their subordinates have done to be culpable. Still, religions get a pass, don't they? Well, some religions do.
