Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Son of a Pronator Man
Is this for real, is that parkrunner definitely a FV95 and not someone who, accidentally or deliberately has entered an incorrect gender and DoB ?

A quick browse of their Facebook page reveals what appears to be a celebration of a woman who looks to be in that ballpark age wearing a bespoke 200 parkruns shirt.

It's the age-grade table parkrun uses. It goes wonky at the far end. Check out the difference between the 2004 and 2015 values. Parkrun uses the 2004 values. Above age 50ish the new vs old starts to deviate badly. For a 95 year old, we are looking at 1.5 times the value new vs old.

Parkrun uses the old wava tables (mostly, with some tweaks) but world best data for older ages is horribly out of date / wrong.

The trouble with upgrading tables is people’s percentages will get worse which might discourage some.

Thanks mm I wondered about this. If you look at the best wava performance tables at most parkruns, the top spots are dominated by women. Eg top 10 age grade records at Keswick are all women. No issue with this but suggests the women's tables allow exceptional performances to stand out?

Yes, if you have the "5k app" you can still look at the age grade records, and if you do you will find that that for the overwhelming majority of Parkruns more than a few months old (i.e. they have a good sample size) the top age grade slots will be occupied by women older than 50. It's a result of using the older WAVA tables which inflate these performances. The newer tables are based on more data and so would yield far fewer >100% grades if used.

Christchurch Park parkrun inaugural yesterday in Ipswich (the new replacement parkrun after Ipswich parkrun closed). There was a social media plea well in advance from the core team for people not to turn up for the inaugural - despite this (and knowing this) at least one local person put several posts on Facebook saying people should go along and 'show their support'. 696 in total. I think they would have had probably around 400 as a 'normal' event but why people share it on Facebook encouraging others to go when they know that is not what the core team want is beyond me.

Actually this is quite interesting. I'm sure that last time I looked at this you could see all the >100% age grades, but now it looks like the 5k app developer has put a filter in that disregards all of those performances in the overall table. I wonder if that's the case or I'm not looking correctly. The Ormeau result at least seems to not be listed, nor does the Fauja Singh one from Valentines (can still be found in age grade cat records, but not age grade records).

That shows such a lack of awareness and understanding of the pressure upon the core team BaronessBL! Obviously not someone with experience at the coalface!
