I was timekeeper today and saw a near dog miss on the finish line. A group of four finished with the dog just ahead of the other three. What I assume was the dogs co owner had already finished and was cheering their dog and partner over the line. The dog of course wanted to stop and see it’s co owner and the three others luckily managed to take avoiding action.

57.5 Days of Pain
Went to the relatively new Forfar Loch event. My favourite sort of course, one lap around water (with a small loop back to make up the 5k and give you two looks at the muddiest part of the course). Very conveniently located for a day in the hills on the way north. Stunning weather too. |

I'm not at all engaged with our local event other than a few volunteer credits, so was interested to see this in Delamere's weekly report today "We will be starting to include RUNNING MARSHALS soon to improve our response time in the very rare case that a parkrunner needs medical assistance. We want two running marshals per week who run at 28-30 minutes and 38-40 minutes. All they need to do is carry a phone and let the RD know when assistance is required. You could this this – and you’ll get a volunteer credit too." |

When running with the dog before, and kid and other half were just supporting, it almost caused issues with the dog heading off sideways just before the finish. Subsequently we made sure that the kid was just standing at the far end of the finish funnel if they were going to be supporting. Dogs going sideways isn't something that will be prevented by handheld lead though, just rather than a lead getting in someone's way there will be an arm as well and the human less likely to be able to resist the force of getting dragged along too. Just needs the still in place for one more week policy where individual events can allow, or not, dogs as they see fit and modify things based on their course if needed, to be promoted more by HQ. Dogs should be banned from an event by default, and only permitted at events that have specifically checked their course is suitable. But HQ have spoken, so their daft rules regarding dogs running will now be seen as the correct way to do things. Grrr. ![]() |

Non-runner
As you say Fragile, “oops” indeed. I must admit that hearing the Thompson Twins caused me distress, but then it always did, impossible to dance to, and I was dancing. “The use of music at parkruns is discouraged for several reasons: It is not in keeping with keep-it-simple In many territories licences are required to play music in public Landowner permission is usually required Music can cause stress for people with certain disabilities” |
