Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

A couple of blackcurrant bushes and a couple of blueberries (some blueberries have particularly fine foliage in autumn, I have one, but can't remember what kind (maybe Northland?)). You would need to stick the blueberries in some ericaceous compost though, or maybe in pots.

Or ericaceous compost in pots.

The soil in my garden is well suited to blueberry bushes. I have 4, and they all have red foliage in autumn, and pretty flowers in spring. Very rewarding plants all round!

Thanks! Some really good ideas here :-) I bought some spring bulbs today, they are a must, also want to ensure I plant a couple of roses, hadn’t thought of fruit bushes, shall investigate, also hadn’t realised about different groups of clematis, I like Montana but would not choose to put it in the border. I have hellebores on my wish list and foxgloves, nice to have ideas from you guys :-)

I put in some foxgloves a few years ago, since when I have foxgloves popping up all over the place.

Same story with evening primrose.

And aquilegias.

I relocated some feral alchemilla to the stony wasteland that is my front garden last year, and am quite pleased that I managed to remove the flowers before they set seed. The buddleia, however, has been neglected and I anticipate much pulling up of its offspring next year.
Our clematis Montana seems to enjoy a good chainsawing.

Japanese anemone is my bane at the moment. I hate it (might feel differently if it was the white variety) and it's in the wrong place. My gardener dug it up but of course didn't get it all out and I think it's going to take a few applications of glyphosate to sort it out.

I introduced Japanese anemone to my garden at the old Cavern and the only way I got rid of it was allowing the patch to become overgrown with brambles.
