Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Love sparking a good discussion on prizes ;) Sod inclusion - if you want a prize, get faster. At masters champs there are folk who are genetically superior to me, that's just the way it is. Gits ;)

Last night wasn't too bad - 3000m at Southern Vets in Perivale

Set off with 78's in 2nd place and felt more comfortable than the Wimbledon debacle (albeit a bit slower). Sped up a little and ended up with 9.36 for 3rd. Bit windy at times and my Achilles isn't great too - for the first time ever)

You love a project, @TippTop! Stock market to gardening, to coaching, I enjoy hearing of your wide ranging talents 😊

Really enjoyed the report, @Muddyfunster. It certainly sounds (and looks) a great place to run. Well paced and hard luck on the prize. I tend to side with @stevieg and @Forrest Jooligan – spread the prizes as widely as possible. Life is short and if we can encourage more people do do an excellent thing (running), then that’s a good thing.

Hope the achilees is ok, @LBAC Si. Marvelling at 3:!2/km average pace!

Nice and easy recovery on Tuesday afternoon. Although having switched to a slightly different insulin, the longer duration caught me out with a big and sustained low so saw off an entire packet of dextrose. Not entirely pleasant 😒

Session yesterday morning, a second ‘strong fartlek’. Grass track with 5 x 5’ at around HMP (5’ easy), then 30s fast (90s easy). 10M at 7:14s. Sneaky double recovery later on and a few box jumps and kettlebell swings.

Out this morning for a lovely 17M at easy along the canal, getting further along than in a few years. Really beautiful the further you head from the city centre. Even a sneaky hill at one point! 8m/m for HR in the mid 120s. No signs of top end paces, but fitness is trending in the right direction. 55M Mon – Thur so will take it v easy in advance of Sunday’s 10k.

I gave up arguing with strangers on the internet during Covid :-) .

I should join our club committee. To shake things up a bit.

My main aim would be to get the club kit redesigned and have it produced by a quality brand using modern fabrics and technology so fast people can actually wear it! I guarantee it would increase membership. I did make enquiries before via one of my allies on the inner circle and if I remember rightly they wouldn't consider it because the exisitng kit was designed by a member that died years ago. I mean that's the problem with your 'lefty' types SG ;-), always letting their emotions get in the way of doing the logical thing!

Our club is similar. Resisting some good race kit as it would be felt elitist. I am keen to change to Western Tempo but can’t make the training sessions so can’t yet be bothered. SG makes it sounds like a right hassle!

Reggie, that kit would definitely help, especially for you 3 sport merchants!

Could do with our lots being the same material as my old lots. I think it's some sort of recycled material which scores top points in the virtue signalling chart, but not as many in the "nipples not getting obliterated if there's any sort of moisture about" one.

I have been told I look handsome in the current kit though.

In fairness it was only my myself, but i'm not even sure I told myself that in the white Dashers kit :)

@Sorequads the process is actually way easier now. I remember the days you had to bloody get a physical paper signed off by the old lot, post it in, and physically wait for some faceless EA board to meet to decide if little Johnny Nobody at Local Club A could join Local Club B. Then take ages letting you know🤪

I've always got some other ridiculous side issues going on with my moves is the problem.
Also it's more entertaining milking it.

Like with the race reports.

Could just write
"went to race, did an alright time, onto the next" for instance :)

6&4 today, Friday track tomorrow, which is the dreaded reduced recoveries one.
12x90secs possibly starting 70secs, then reduces by 5 each rep, leaving you utterly gassed late doors if you've overdone it early doors.

Never 100% sure if these "fancy" sessions are more beneficial then a straight forward x reps at x pace off x recovery, but they're probably more entertaining in a group.

Then Sunday and Tuesday I'm marshaling.

Jack all, all year, then 2 in 3 days!

Good race as ever Simon.
Being a fast dastad means even your crap ones sound good :)

And one last word on committees etc, it's very easy to forget how thankless a role they are.
You barely get thanked, but you quickly hear the moans! Plus you have to turn up at meetings.

Having been on Marlow, Dashers and the 5k and xc boards before, I remember only too well!

This said, I'm forgetting this as I'm getting a bit too keen with the old compiling the championship results, and gradually getting sucked in.

Although if they had any doubt about how obsessive and intense I am before hand, those doubts have evaporated!

So I expect it'll go one of 2 ways. Plead with me to join the board properly, or tell me to get my beak out of dodge :)

Cheers all - yeah I know the time are all relative and never take anything for granted. It's just frustrating thinking with 150m to go that I was going through the finish at that time last year for a sub 9.10. Hey ho, thats the way it is.

Yes I can see i'm well down the niceness table on here with Reggie. You are all very nice people, i'm just the narly club runner son of an old school club runner - it's in the blood :)

Oh yes this annoyed me at Poole Parkrun - a woman with a 'No club running club' t shirt on. Oh good for you etc etc... Is it cool to not belong to a club now?

Never apologise for who you are Simon. And none of us would ever vocalise that we were doing proper sports when we were younger ;)

That is silly from that woman. But it's funny what our irrational dislikes are.

Whenever I see "Vegan Runners" i have to try and channel my inner Reg style immediately thought of "you'd be bloody quicker if you did eat meat etc", which is slightly odd as I barely eat much anyway, and I'm hardly a hunk like @Sorequads , and could probably turn Veggie without too much issue (no milk and Vegan, zero chance though). It's the sort of labelling yourself in that political way i find slightly odd.

Or maybe it's the horrible colour scheme, something that screams Apprentice losing team pick - where the producers have created 2 schemes, one brilliant, one terrible, so that the 2nd pickers can get ripped apart with some Sugar pre prepared lines later "you bladdy picked green and black, are you maddd, it's horrible" etc...

About This Thread

Hi there - this thread started in 2010 over on RW and started as an improvement thread for myself under Moraghan's coaching, through to more of a general collaboration tool and place to share training and long winded race reports.

Thanks to the fetch community for allowing us to move over, and we'd welcome loads of new contributors adding to the thread, as we were definitely running on empty with a small bunch of posters near the end!
