Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

@Sorequads You've hit some decent heights recently and for some long and brutal races.

So probably natural for things to ease off a bit.

In the meantime tell that hard task master TT you just want to be young and carefree for a bit ;)

I checked the Wallingford 10k results and was surprised to see 2nd and 3rd were only about 10-15secs off a road 10k result they'd achieved fairly recently.

I suppose it definitely shows strengths and mentality going into a race!

I personally found the 2 dead stop turns, grass, traily stuff in places enough to slow me a bit, despite it being flat and roady in the main.
But I suppose I did go in a bit "get it done solidly" rather than any sort of focus, which probably makes quite a difference :)

Agreed, @stevieg. My head’s in a bit of a better place about it now. Just focusing on enjoying it. Even loved today’s rain!

Too kind @stevieg

Session last night cheered me up a bit though 5 x (400/300/200) 2 mins between sets. Legs felt stronger and average was 70/52/33.

Three toilet stops before the 3000, so definitely think that played a part too, had that feeling before - bad stomach just drains your quads.

Finally the Greensand Ridge Relays tomorrow, forecast lovely for my 5.5 mile off road effort. Should be fun.

Strong paces, @LBAC Si! Good luck tomorrow.

Double recovery today: 5 & 3M nice and slow. MLR on the plan for tomorrow.right finish with parkrun but keep it easy effort.

Proud dad moment this afternoon with a school record for my daughter at sports day. Admittedly it is the first time the event had been run and there were only 8 of them, but we’ll take it!

Good luck at the relays @LBAC Si & well done on squeezing inside your best case scenario prediction in the 3,000.

A win’s a win @Sorequads You’re right to be proud. You’ve always encouraged her participation in running & been an excellent role model.

Insanely muggy the last few days.

Weighed myself on Wednesday. Not in the habit of weighting myself daily let alone twice but as I was even more drenched than usual I figured it’d be interesting to see how much sweat I’d lost after an easyish 18K run. Lost 2.9kg between morning & evening weigh in!! I was still 0.6kg lighter yesterday morning & lost another bucketload that evening.
No run today but did 75 minutes on the bike.

Definitely has had my "humid radar" on overdrive this last week Jools!

Though a first long run of as much as 13 in 4 weeks (1 race - with 11miles done, 11miles getting back into it the week before, and a 5 recovering post 3 days off the week before!) was reasonably cool and not too humid in fairness. A small amount of gubbing around offroad to slow it to a 7.45 average, but all ok.

Anyway, 62mile week, first 60+ in 6 weeks itself.

Big set of races coming up soon, will weigh up a weekend turnout too, but will probably monitor the temperature to be honest!

I think I’d break with 60+ mile weeks at the moment Stevie. I took the opportunity for a cut back week ahead of a fairly busy schedule of b races coming up over the next three weeks.

Hope the relays went well @LBAC Si

I had a muggy parkrun outing @Forrest Jooligan on Saturday. Adds a lot more to the perception of effort - I set the dials to ‘parkrun’ and rolled in 6th in 18.56. Had a nice catch up with DT19 from the old runnersworld forum. Event photos caught me looking down with an ‘ugh’ face pointing out some dog crap on the course for the benefit of the following runners.

Found out recently that I’ve got a physio/sports massage budget with my work health plan that I haven’t used. Trying to get in for a physio session to do a strength/weakness analysis to inform the gym work.

Nice PR, Muddy. I made sure to use up my physio and massage fund lasts year, I almost felt guilty using it, there was still quite a few things there I didn't use.

No 60 miles for me but 36 miles along with the cycling and running made for a fairly solid week. 4 runs, 4 swims and 5 days riding with a long hilly 4 hours on Saturday. Sunday I did a lake swim in the morning and an easy 1 hr 40 run on the trails. It was around 23c but I came back with barely a bead of sweat. A combination of a nice breeze, bit of woodland shade and hopefully a degree of acclimatisation.

16.5 hours then and I am probably only looking at another 3-4 hours in peak Ironman training so good to get through the week without too much issue.

4k swim this morning and commute to work has me feeling a little jaded though.

Sounds like a photo to frame for the all time memories does that Muddy 🤣

I wouldn't want to see the weakness analysis for most runners, expect most have loads of stuff going on.
One of my previous physios had already rehearsed her speech on hearing I was a V40, but sort of back tracked a bit throughout, upon realising I wasn't as wrecked as most of her clients probably are and that a couple of basic stretches would sort things.

One of those physios who thinks everyone over a certain age is mad to do sport just because everyone she sees has issues, funnily enough, being a physio!

Nice 60k week then Reg!!

Hi there - this thread started in 2010 over on RW and started as an improvement thread for myself under Moraghan's coaching, through to more of a general collaboration tool and place to share training and long winded race reports.

Thanks to the fetch community for allowing us to move over, and we'd welcome loads of new contributors adding to the thread, as we were definitely running on empty with a small bunch of posters near the end!
