Lightweight neutral shoes with a little bit of cushioning - what should I look at?

It's been a long time since I've bought any proper road shoes. I'm currently running in Nike Vaporflys, which I stockpiled when they were discontinued and which are very lightweight and slightly cushioned, and my plan was to move to something flatter when I ran out of them. However, having crocked my achilles tendon last winter running on the treadmill in Inov8 Road Xlite 155s, and since my I'm wondering whether I ought to swing the pendulum back a little and get something more cushioned again as I increase my distances in training. I don't want trampolines, I don't need stability/motion control features, I've got wide feet but don't tend to blister, and I'm fine in Inov8 F-Lite 230s for shorter distances. I would also quite like not to spend a fortune.

Not only have the models and materials changed since 2007/2008 when I last went shoe-shopping, there are entire manufacturers out there that weren't in the running shoe market then.

OF COURSE I'm going to go to a proper running shop and try different shoes on, but could you kind Fetchies please give me some guidance as to what's, like, good?

The next road-x up? The 233? 6mm drop.

Might not be much different to the f-lite, though. The 255 (238 for ladies?) is 9mm drop, which might be too much for you.

My funny feet love the 233s.

I seem to get on with the flatter, cushioned options like the asics hyper 33 for days when I want a bit more protection than my F-lites. So perhaps have a look at the low drop options around?

I'm not sure that I want a really low drop, if my achilles tendon is going to prove nigglesome.

I like both my asics hyper 33 and road-x 238 , I have wide toes and a narrow heel and quite high arches, but both seem to suit me. I wear the former most as they seem a bit safer on wet grass - I'm not very good at plotting road only routes
