Any Reacher fans on here? I’ve read all the books and just watched the first 2 episodes of the Amazon Prime series. Great casting for the character, much more like the Reacher described and how I imagine him in my head than Tom Cruise in the films.
What does everyone else think ?

I really didn't like Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher - like you, he didn't fit my image of him. I've not seen the series but will take a look. Thank you

I’ve read all the books apart from the latest. Not sure if I’m going to carry on reading them now the author’s brother is going to be writing them.
I also didn’t like the Tom Cruise Reacher but definitely think the new version is worth looking at. Have seen the trailer on YouTube. Don’t particularly want to pay for Amazon Prime though. Hoping they’ll be released on DVD as well.

I liked the Tom Cruise films, but I've never read the books.

The books are very good, Dave.O. Definitely worth reading. The description of the character in the books definitely doesn’t match Tom Cruise. He wasn’t anywhere near tall enough for starters. The actor in the Amazon series is 6 foot 4 from what I’ve read so only slightly shorter that described in the books. Plus they’ve shot it in certain ways to make him look taller. Used shorter actors around him. It sounds like they’re intending to film the books in order too.

I’m working my way through my local library’s selection of Reachers. I do keep forgetting which ones I’ve read in the past but don’t mind reading them again. Still got a fair few left to read that they don’t have in stock so might have to start requesting from other libraries to complete the set.
Haven’t seen the series but I did like the films, although I had to forget about ‘my’ Reacher from the books and pretend it was a different character.

I read all the novels in order last year (minus the most recent one). Apart from the glaring casting error, I liked the first film. The sequel was a stinker though.
Watched the first three (or four) episodes on Amazon last night, and it is very good. Lots of the book in there. The dialogue is right, his presence and demeanour mostly bang on. I agreed with a friend of mine that this new guy could have afforded to be a bit older for the role, but my feeling is he’ll grow into it if the plan is to do multiple series according to the books.

I’ve got them all and read them all a couple of times (I forget the plots quite quickly). Reacher isn’t a meathead despite appearance but a very deep thinker. The books all have a rather subtle theme that might not be obvious to everyone, be it racism, treatment of veterans, corruption etc. They are quite a clever critique of American society. I suspect the books might be harder to do now that Jack is 60 and the surveillance society has taken off, I mean, has he had all his jabs, lol.
