The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Not happy about the Russian girl dating thing. I presume it's google ad related and it's using the fact that it knows I'm logged in as me (a bloke). Has Fetch himself posted in this thread yet to say what's going on?

Yes, I'm sure he said a while back he has nothing to do with ads, he provides the spaces and head office fill them.

Many, many sites offer a 'subscription fee or adverts' choice - including a lot of the 'opposition' (TrainingPeaks, MapMyHerring, etc).

Sure NatrogMatdale or whoever we are owned by would be interested in that model - my RW mag subscription is purely to access all the RW site for all love.

I've expunged the ads. I'll consider any reasonable request re subscription if that be the will of the majority of Fetch adherents.

I'm sorry, I just couldn't stand the flashing ads any more, I turned them off too. Like others, I would be happy with running-related ads or paying to make the ads go away. Or even ads which don't constantly change. That doesn't make me want to bank with Santander, it makes me want to kill them.

I don't choose the ads, I just supply the holes, and the people who pay my salary and supply a server choose what they want to put in them. The change was a surprise to me too, and I've asked for some clarification on the thinking.

If you get any particularly dodgy ones, e.g. Russian mail order brides, or ones that break the user experience, it would be helpful for me to see some screenshots (ian AT fetcheveryone.com), and I'll feed those back.

And: "I've just clicked the little blue triangle in the top right corner of the ad, and looked at the opt-out options. On the page it took me to (after it took a while to think about it), there was a button called something like 'Choose All Companies' - I clicked that, and thus far, it seems to have opted me out of all the ads."
