Spotted this on reddit today - reddit.com - which looked fun and thought maybe a thread for gathering together some bizarre / intriguing / interesting running challenges might be a Fetch sort of thing. I've not looked into it in any more detail but as the post says, it's a bet that a friend couldn't run 7 miles whilst the other runner picked up 100 eggs placed 1 yd apart (one by one) and returned them to the start. Sum of digits 1 to 100 is 5,050 I think, so if we metrificate it that's running 10,100m as the egg picker vs 11,200m as the distance runner. Pretty hard to be the egg picker I think, assuming they are well matched as runners. Any more from around the world? I guess there's Man v Horse, but there are probably countless other local events with odd rules and challenges attached. |

The egg picker in the video is not returning to the start, he's throwing them in from about 2 yards out, so that's about 400 yards less distance ![]() |

Bingley Harriers host the “Harriers v Cyclists” fell race every year. It’s either October or November. Simon Richardson from the GCN show entered as a cyclist one year for their YouTube channel. m.youtube.com |

I'm going to give the egg picker the benefit of the doubt with the absence of straight lines he's running in!

I remember reading about people running up flights of stairs in tall buildings some time ago. Here's an example: verticalworldcircuit.com |

Tower 42 in London (used to be called Nat West Tower) used to have a run up the stairs challenge a few years ago. not sure if it's still going.

There's a game I saw making use of a circular train route, in this case the Yamanote Line in Tokyo. You pick a station as the start point, draw the next station to run to from a hat, and draw again until you've run to every station. Cutting across, not following the route. On the ground the Yamanote Line is shaped like a pulled tooth rather than the neat circle the diagram shows, so getting a station at the north when you're at the south, or vice versa, adds the most distance. So there's emotional damage if you're tired and have only just come from the opposite side and have to go again, or joy if you draw a nearby station. I think the person I watched doing it gave herself a redraw option to use one time. Also she paused the game to go home and finished it the next day, since her total went over 100km, if I remember right. That was ウルトラランナーみゃこ on Youtube, but it's not in English.

I'm sure I saw a London underground marathon-like thing years ago. London UnderRound if memory is correct...

I seem to remember the London Underground challenge I saw was quickest time to visit all stations which involved running between the close stations rather than changing lines.
