Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Harry - that's MY shed and it contains my chainsaw. Sending her there would be something of a misjudgment

Not sure if my workout was HADD approved but hadd a good interval session nonetheless:) 12 X 300m@56 seconds avg. pace. Course was on road with about 120 meters up hill to a peak of about 10% grade. It was a great mental and physical challenge but felt very efficient despite. HR avg. was 146bpm and maxhr was 185bpm.

I personally like keeping at the upper limit of the aerobic band. That way I can run faster because is that one of the reasons for training also;-)

Right, my first attempt at running to HR this morning.

I set the garmin to 140 - 145 (based on the Hadd figures for 193+), but had in my head the fact that he said you could start at sub 150 if that was too hard.

Within 30 seconds of starting running my HR had shot up into the 160s. It always does this at the start of a run. But within the first half mile or so of stops, walks and trying to get it back down it settled down quite nicely, and I was running mainly *around* 145 - sometimes it was in the high 140s, sometimes it was actually in the 130s and beeping at me for being too low. The only times I can remember it going above 150 other than the first few minutes were on a slight incline where I eased back and got it back down again and near the end of the run when I got carried away a bit. Average for the run was 148 so still some work to do, but take the first few minutes out of the equation and it was probably a bit lower.

I deliberately didn't have pace showing as I ran, and just aimed for about an hour, then looked at the distance when I'd finished. It turned out to be just over 6 miles at just under 10mm - slower than I'd normally run, but faster than 5k pace + 3 minutes. I *was* surprised how easy it felt though, and I could quite happily go back out and run again later.

It wasn't easy to stick to the HR, but it was bearable enough that I think I'm going to try to stick with it for a while and see what the effect is.

I do find my HR shows a dramatic spike sometimes very early in my run but it settles down again quickly.

A sub LT run for me today so slightly faster.

At the moment I'm mainly concentrating on mile building to get a base for my marathon training, have started about a month ago from my usual average of 25-30 mpw and should make 40 this week. I would really love to crack a sub 4 at Brighton mara and I know if I do what I always do I'll get what I always get (miss it by about 5-10 mins) so am determined to stick to it this time!

Second Hadd run and much slower than yesterday. Like YP1 I opted for 145 (average was 146) but it too slow - 9:51 mm. Heart rate was even rising slightly towards the end so if I'd done an hour I would have been over 10mm!

Going to try 150 next time.
