Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Not bad but getting two lenses is a pain. Sometimes you're better off getting the body, then selecting a lens. I went for an 18-200mm lens for my Nikon DSLR. I then inherited a bunch of compatible lenses from my dad when he passed away.

halfpint, if you have a branch near you, lcegroup.co.uk is a good place to go. We've done trade-ins there for new stuff; they have decent second hand things too.

Well, another chance for me to practice at the local XC at the weekend. I did a lap of the course before everyone started to see where might be good for shooting. I decided on a downslope and then near a boggy patch.

I was fairly pleased with this week's effort having worked out that my (budget) equipment seems to produce crisper images when a runner really fills the viewing area, rather than trying to get more of the scenic background in. I didn't have any time to edit so just put the basic photos up as shot - facebook.com

Next in the series of XC races today and it was mega foggy and freezing, but with the sun coming through, which made for some interesting photos as tried with the sun behind. Really liked this one:

Me and t'wife have just started exploring the use of our camera a little more. We've had a canon 700d dslr for about 18 months. We've used it a bit, put it away, used it some more etc. Recently it's started getting used at the club handicap. Hopefully it'll get a few run outs at the club xc races this year. We d just invested in a longer lens and filter.

After the initial couple of race albums I put on bookface I contacted a pro photographer who I know. He gave some v good advice on its use which I've tried to put into practice. Slowly it seems to be getting there.

The reason for the new kit isn't just races. A few times we've been out walking, especially last weekend, when we went to an RSPB reserve. We've seen shots that could do with a zoom in or better clarity so just figured we would invest and see how the photos went with it.

It ain't cheap, is it ?

The other half is happy as she now has a camera...after I 'needed' to upgrade :P

I think one of the best things I did was to 'upgrade' from the original 18-105mm f3.5-5.6 that came with the camera to a 35mm f1.8 prime, for £100. The quality is fantastic and it's so light to carry around (as opposed to the 70-200 used for sport).

It's definitely the case that the 'same' shot taken on the new camera body looks so much better than the old one, but also I worked out that I must have taken well over 25,000 photos of running/cycling in the last 10 month or so. So getting better with practice is also helping...even started experimenting with the old 'speed blur' technique!
