Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

I know what you mean about DSLRs being too heavy. I'm not even taking mine (Canon 6D) to Egypt next week because it's just too heavy to carry around. I'll take a tiny compact instead.

Yes, I tend to carry my small compact on holidays, though occasionally take the DSLR with me on holiday...in a backpack!

Quick shout for the micro 4/3 cameras.

Either the best (or the worst) of both systems (DSLR and compact), depending on your viewpoint...

My EPL1 with 14-42mm lens (35mm equivalent is 28-84) weighs a shade under 500g.

It's not cheap but the Fuji x100 will take you truly stunning images, and is small and compact.

Or if you want something slightly smaller but with a zoom lens try the Fuji X20 or X30. Lots of manual controls and RAW files with that lovely Fuji colour albeit with a smaller sensor (about half the size of Micro 4/3).

Love my x100, the fixed lens just means you have to think more and position yourself better than if you had a zoom or a range of primes.

Sorry halfpint, dont know much about nikons these days, but you get what you pay for and I bet those lenses aren't great (i note that there is little detail about them, but I bet they aren't fast so you might not get much use out of them at the long end).

I think I probably need to take some time and do my research to get the right camera and lenses rather than be lured in by a deal.

halfpint, if you're not set on 'new' then a site recommended (to me) is mpbphotographic.co.uk
