Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch
or for an ad-free Fetcheveryone experience!

We have previously met in Covid times Larkim at Middleton Park parkrun IIRC?

I'll be on parking. And then following the men's race up to take down the stiles - gasping for air again because I'm so unfit.

"Secret" race info is that the start is brutal, but the first half of the first climb is the worst, although there are many false summits. The downs are grassy and fun (but watch out for rabbit holes on the first descent). The second climb is up. The farm track to finish is a bit rubbish - especially near the top after you've come through the farm - try to stick to the grass verges as much as possible (left hand side before the switch back, right hand side afterwards).

"The second climb is up."

This was the important part.....

Clearly I was going to say something about the second climb, but currently have no idea what it was.

Yep I remember that fozzy; same son with me this time too but he's a bit bigger (and a lot faster) than back then. I'm terrible for remembering faces etc so if I pay you for parking and completely blank you don't take offence!!

Thanks for the course hints and tips, much appreciated. I'm pretty terrible and cautious at descending and not much better at finding the right pace to climb at, so it might me an interesting afternoon!

The descents are glorious. Perfect for me. Just the right gradient and mostly grassy. And loooong.

I encourage you to purchase a map on the day.

I'm rather pleased with them...

I was marshalling at this point just near the finish and it started off as looking like a typical case of heat exhaustion, anyone who watched the Commonwealth Games where Callum Hawkins was left to struggle on and collapse for several long minutes unaided will recognise:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeIR1GW8USo

but I suppose heat stress can easily lead to/exacerbate cardiac issues too. A useful reminder as to how these things can escalate.

Worth emphasising that the runner was not left to struggle on and collapse repeatedly as in that video, he was supported a short way along the course until it became clear he was going no further, at which point we put him safely on the ground and as soon as NE was (rapidly) on the scene he gave a textbook demonstration of early response.

I'll look out for your mapping handiwork fozzy; presume there is a charge for those?

Checked out the quality map online fozzy, making an intelligent guess about the link between the map author and a username on here 🙂

It is a thing of beauty.

£2 for the printed copies printed on waterproof paper on the day. Money is going to Upper Wharfedale MRT.
