Can't remember if I saw the leaders going the other way up Whernside last year so I'll keep an eye out. I haven't see him since he was 11 or so, so I'll try remember what he looks like!!

I saw a recent pic and he looked like he’s filled out a bit. Last time I walked the route maybe ten years ago we was walking round just ahead of us with a group of mates

Is that the mountain running champs race or is that a different one? We've entered Youlgreave Pommie Panter and will go and run the route next week. It's easier than Wirksworth Incline apparently, but not marshaled and I don't want to get lost 😂 I've got to do 6 fell races this year if I want to get our clubs joint fell and road champs. Hoping to keep them all fairly short ones. |

I’ll be mischievous and suggest it’s just a run of the mill fell race albeit a very popular and more expensive one. They opened the entries up this year to more qualifying races and it’s full (more than 1000 entries). Though you’re also right that it once was a (European?) mountain championship event, earliesh 2000s I think. I’ve always loved the event. And even if it is more expensive than an average, even most, fell races, I still think it’s great value and well worth doing. |

It was the World Long Distance Mountain Running Championships back in 2008. I ran it and have a big stone ‘medal’ somewhere

Indeed! I've done it a few times when either he or Jonny were there, my goal always was to get further than the point where he rejoined the route after the loop around Top Withins. I failed, mostly ![]() |

Done ALS several times when either or both of the Brownlees were there (also Chevin Chase). One year Richard Varga ran as well and I think several other of the pro triathletes have also raced it. Andi Jones used to be a regular attendee as well. And of course Ian Holmes is always there... |
