Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Out on our club bluebell run last night we watched a barn owl having a big fly around a field before disappearing into a tree then just round the corner a pair of buzzards were flying around.

Also mentioned by the local Facebook page last night was the 'plight' of the ducklings on the local pond.

Mother duck (mallard) hadn't been seen for a few hours and 6 of the 12 chicks were swimming around on the pond as it was getting dark. It wasn't known what had happened to mum or other chicks.

Some locals decided to 'rescue' the chicks from their natural habitat and hand them over to a local wildlife sanctuary charity.

This morning a female mallard was seen back on the pond with no chicks :-(

I'm not sure I can see why some people thought that interfering with nature (there was no evidence to suggest that anything unnatural or manmade had happened to the other ducks) was a good thing as the poor helpless ducky wuckies etc etc were clearly not in danger in a pond where they live. Any comments about not interfering with nature and the fact that it's against the law were very helpfully ignored.

I actually posted a comment about the law that it relates to and the response was "Balls to the law."

Dave a - totally reminds me of the warning about touching "abandoned" baby seals I saw a while back, the moment you attempt to help them, is the moment if they weren't abandoned, they will be abandoned, and not just abandoned but ostracised and sometimes attacked by other seals as a result.

Apparently touching a bird won't stop it's brood or mother accepting it back as birds sense of smell isn't good. According to what I've read on t'internet 'saving' a bird reduces its chances than letting nature take its course.

Others posted on the same page about letting nature take its course. When the update came through that all 6 had survived one night the post was along the lines of 'Mother Nature my arse'.

Stupid girl.
