Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Sera - agree with you about The End of the World Running Club as opposed to Nod.

I haven't read The Road, though I did see the film. Should put that right. It was a good film, though very grey (visually) and very bleak.

I'm actually going to start visiting people with copies of Station Eleven and forcing them to read it I think.

Just as I checked the updates on this thread, Mrs D said to me that The Land Of Nod is shutting down. This is a local bed shop.

Okay Greppers. I just looked on amazon for Station 11 and it was £1.29. On the strength of your recommendation I have downloaded a copy. It better be good or else ;-)

I *hated* it at the time. Best book I've read this century.

Realised I never did this. Hm. I liked Nod and raced through it as I was enjoying it. I liked the premise and wanted to know what happened. However with a bit of distance I'm a little disturbed by the downright nastiness of it all. There were really no likeable characters at all.

A couple of mis-steps I spotted:

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure it's the Marcellus Wallace character in Pulp Fiction that threatens to 'get mediaeval...' not Samuel L.

The other thing was: why would cars be abandoned? It wasn't a sudden event, people declined over weeks. Surely people's cars wd just have been parked?

Overall I'm glad I read it and liked it. I'm giving it a 6.
