It's a fruit for tax purposes. Or a vegetable for tax purposes - one or the other. This came up on, I'm assuming, NSTAAF.

Not that I know of. A tomato is simply a fruit, AAFK. There's a sign up outside a café by St. James's Park tube which reads "Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad". |

As in nata montada, yes. I suppose you could wilfully mistranslate it to something like birthday cake if you really tried.
