Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Puddletown has already covered this on Twitter, but my gears are being comprehensively ground by the word 'arks', as in 'can I arks you a question?'.

People asking if one can be pacific about whether something may turn out to be a damp squid have been annoying me for years. 'Arks' is, however, new - at least in mid-Essex.

Grrrrr.

I think 'Mercanisms in general are a hot topic on this wire.

Which reminds me. The woman near Westminister[sic] tube on Friday asking her tour guide when Labor Day was in England.

"Pacific" and "damp squid" do tend to wind me up.

Another one was the use of "infantry" to mean "inventory". A colleague used to frequently say that, as in "Give me the pacific(!) product code and I'll check the infantry level on the computer"! Aaaargh!!!!!!
