Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The inability of the people I employ to grasp the fact that it takes a finite amount of time to make a telephone call to a patient, resulting in a list of telephone calls to be made because of "wants to discuss, really really concerned, no appointments available" and no time set aside in which to do them.

You can't reserve bike spaces online on Virgin Trains - you have to phone them.

You have to phone a premium rate number.

The first 30 seconds of the call is a recording telling you that it's cheaper to go online and that this call is at a premium rate.

The price of the tickets is 25% more expensive through the premium rate number than on the website.

The deed is done now Chris. Virgin Trains are essentially a vulture capitalist investment company which runs a few trains on the side.

In the end I was able to book just the bike spaces on the phone and booked the seats online, saving £20. Of course if you haven't done your research first an you phone up, you just end up paying the higher price *and* being charged for the phone call.

Even so, not quite as unfriendly as Northern rail whose website proclaims they are committed to green transport and that cycling is great for the environment and they encourage cycling and work in partnership with cyclists and and and... etc... and then say 'we have two cycle spaces per train but at bust times allowing any cycles on at all is at the discretion of the guard'

Oh I see. By 'we work in partnership with cycling groups' you meant 'dear cyclists, please fuck off'

Unnecessary criminal damage!

Checked into a hotel yesterday and went to room. TV (flat screen) looked fine when off (all black), but switched it on and two thirds of display was knackered with one focal point/circle with cracks eminating out.

Went back to reception to report it , took manager to my room and he said cleaners hadn't reported anything. I said they wouldn't have noticed unless they'd switched it on. Showed him TV which looked fine from front, but from an angle clearly had some damage and looked as though someone had punched it.

He apologised as they were fully booked so he was unable to move me to another room. I told him no problem, I just hope he gets his money for damage back from previous occupier of room.

Funnily enough McG, i'd just come in here to have a rage about trains too. :-)

FGW - how can it be even vaguely reasonable to charge £49 for a day return to London with the Underground? and those B*sta*rds at APCOA then charge £20.20 for car parking?? £70 to go to London for the day - Are you completely mad? It's a half hour train ride, not the bloody TGV across three countries. I can get a Mercedes and driver to take me to London and back for that.

London - the place where no one can afford to live and now no one can afford to commute to either!

well enjoy your chauffeured trip to London then, CStar :) Not to mention you don't actually get a seat on the train for your 50 quid! Unless you fancy getting up at 5am.

Adult cyclists on narrow pavements beside quiet wide suburban street... Oh and, while I'm at it, golf umbrellas carried by students with headphones in... may have been a bit grumpy running this morning :-)
