Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I suspect not all, Chris. Glos CC is currently holding a 'consultation' about the way roadworks are managed here - presumably because they've had so many complaints.
A few weeks ago I did actually speak to one 'worker' who was sitting in his cab, scrolling on his phone. I said that on every occasion I'd gone past, over a number of days, the workmen were just sitting in the cab and no work was in evidence. He replied that there was 'a hold-up with the tarmac' so they couldn't do anything. For the latest road closure they aren't even bothering to turn up and sit in their vans.

Don't all counties make contractors "rent" the roads they close so that they pay more if they take longer?

That scheme has recently been introduced in Oxfordshire.

Self service check outs.

I value human labour too highly to undercut store employees by providing mine without pay, even if I have to queue.

I use the self-service hand scanners or my phone in the supermarket. A great time-saving device. Except you get to the checkout and have to queue behind everyone who is scanning everything in their trollies from scratch.

This also helps less able people - my housemate has to use disabled checkouts, and if they keeps closing tills it makes his life a lot more awkward...

Which brings me to: the new fridge doors in our local Asda. Sure, it looks smart, and chances are it saves on energy costs, but for a customer in a scooter they really struggle to open the door, grab their item, and get away.

Self service check outs are a god send when you are having a bad day and totally on the verge of tears when you have to speak to anyone but really need to get some shopping.

IG.
I have a business account.
Every time I go on there there are more adverts, reels auto-playing, suggested posts auto-playing. I just want to see people I follow, not a load of random sh#t! Plus: every reel seems to have the same bit of music to it that drives me round the bend! If it wasn't for the fact that I built this account up carefully for years to support my business, I would have deleted it!
