Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Student Loans say that I'm due a refund on the loans I finished repaying years ago.

I call them, and they ask for letters from my secret answer to a question.

They don't tell me what the question is.

So I'm to remember a random word that I probably set up 22 years ago. OK.

People dicking around and wasting time because they've got nothing else to do. I have over three hours driving ahead, it's not fair to assume I'll just taxi everyone around when it suits them and get home at midnight.

[linked to Jock's comment about annoying supermarket tills on the previous page]

the Lidl self service till that bleats out "please scan a bar code, look up an item, or press Pay to finish" when I pause scanning the items for just a couple of seconds, as if I've completely forgotten how to use a self service till half way through packing my shopping.

[And then, at the end, the till says "have you scanned all your shopping?" to which I always sarcastically say, out loud, "No" !]

Why do most people keep their engine on when in a traffic jam?
A) it uses fuel - i thought we were in a fuel crisis?
B) its bad for the environment- I thought we were in a climate emergency?
C) I have to close my windows to stop breathing in their filthy fumes

Are people selfish or just thick?

Not just in traffic jams - we have this issue in the road alongside our garden in Sidmouth. People park there while their passenger 'pops in' to Tesco round the corner. I've gone out and asked them to turn their engine off and just been ignored. Both selfish and thick, I'd say.

To keep the aircon going, I suspect. I wouldn’t usually do it but I did yesterday while waiting to pick up my daughter as I had my dog in the car and just having the windows open wasn’t keeping her cool enough.

This doesn't just happen in the Summer though. And seriously, just turning off the engine for a minute or so won't make a massive difference to the internal temperature.

I actually hate drivers.

I’m glad my new car switches off the engine when you’re stopped
