Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

The use of the word tiers to describe restrictions levels. Keep tiers for describing nice things like cakes or posh frocks

"Bubbles" in a COVID restrictions context annoys the hell out of me too.

So, TV & radio interviewees who start every reply with "So, ..."

Well, that and interviewees who start every reply with "Well, ..."

...and add the affirmation seeking types who start sentences with 'Look,...' when what the recipient really needs to do is listen.

^^ TV and radio news programmes that replace news with random people's witterings and half formed opinions. And thinking I may be interested in Joe (or Jane) Public's thoughts on lockdown or tier level on some street in any town.

Yes, swittle.

Oh god yes, um. BBC news programmes have been driving me mad with vox-pop bollocks for a while, it was terrible around the Brexit referendum and it has got even worse during COVID.

I will defend the BBC with my dying breath, but the person / people in charge of TV news should be taken outside for a stern talking-to.

Sadly, it's a cheap way to make TV and therefore is here to stay, I fear.

Agreed um & Fitz, although many of the interviews with scientists/researchers are equally annoying as their view frequently seems to be that much more research (paid for from the public pocket) is required before they can draw any meaningful (or indeed useful) conclusions...
