Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I have three partners and a husband, and tend not to get them mixed up very often :)

(although personally I think boyfriend/girlfriend suggests it's not serious... and I feel a bit daft referring to my 55 YO of 20 years as my 'boyfriend' .....and no I'm not sodding getting married !)

Well I'm not married but it grates to call Raffo my 'boy'friend. I can't stand Other Half (or OH) so if I don't refer to him as my True Love (which I often do) then PARTNER it is. He doesn't care for it much but I think it's FINE.

Good job I didn't mention common-in-law wife/husband as well.

MH, my neighbour's dad is well into his sixties. He's a divorcee and he always refers to his other half as his girlfriend.

"Are you married?"
"No, just living in sin" is a good one to use...

And then there are gays or lesbians who might not feel like disclosing their sexuality in such a way, I think partner is fine personally. It’s non gender specific.

And partner in a business sense is usually obvious by context. I’m not sure why we need all these terms anyway, denoting gender and sexuality and legal status and seriousness of relationship. Maybe we should scrap them all in favour of ‘the person I’m romantically attached to’,

It would have felt weird (before we married) to refer to Mr Carp as my 'boyfriend' when we'd been together 13 years and had two children. I used and preferred 'partner'.
