Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I know you're about to dish up but do I have time to ... ?

I know that the cake has been in the oven for the full duration but needs a few minutes more to finish off ... I'll just interrupt you by making myself a brew ... and some jellies ... because doing so in the previous 50 minutes when you didn't need to stand there just wasn't inconvenient!

Baby showers. I would like to give you a present once your baby has been born. Not the 'come to my baby shower so you must bring me a baby present.' A sneaky way of getting twice as many presents from people who would like to bless your family with a single gift anyway.

I feel like having a birthday shower. Get one gift a couple of weeks before and then more on the day! OK - rant over.

+1 Phil. Another imported load of bollocks designed expressly to make you spend money on cards and shit.

[I love the idea of friends and family getting together to help a new family get the stuff they need for a new baby. Having gone to one baby shower in my life it feels as if the idea has been kidnapped, 'Hallmark'ed and offered back to us with added sugar. Not my thing at all]

Baby showers in my friendship group tend to include a bit of praying for mum/baby as much as giving of more tangible gifts.

[I could cope with that MMM, just not so good at 'Squee'ing to order]
