I'm English, I live in England, we still measure distance in miles but I think they're trying to convert us by stealth with all the new walking distance markers everywhere.

Why are there 3 unfinished loo rolls on the side in the loo?
Someone loading the dinner plates from the middle in the dishwasher, and not from the side?

@Surry Phil: The marathon has been defined as 42.195 km ever since it was decided that having a fixed length was A Good Idea. It's just the obstinate Brits and Americans who insist on converting into Imperial.
@alpenrose: 'we still measure distance in miles' is a rather broad statement - OS maps are in metric, Highways England measures roads in metric, motorway distance boards are in km, motorway exit markers are spaced 100 m apart, tram speed limits are in km/h, canal distance markers are in km and a straw poll of my friends reckons that half measure their runs in miles and half in km. It's mainly just road signs that are firmly stuck in miles and mph, because no political party wants to deal with the swell of indignant public opposition.

Documentary on BBC4 earlier, on renewable energy. Nigh on unwatchable by the end. Made like a Channel 4 daytime "reality" show (the "grammar" of it, the voiceover tone, the music). Also, the science was pitched at around schools TV primary level.
JUST NOT GOOD ENOUGH!
(Also, living in a place with several solar-panelled houses within 100m and surrounded by wind turbines, I grew increasingly baffled by the presenter's struggle.)

Being told just now by a random old guy sitting outside his house "don't look so down love". Point one - I'm not down, that's clearly just how my face is (so thanks for basically saying I look like a miserable cow, that's obviously guaranteed to enhance anyone's mood), point two, if I was down, presumably there would be a reason for it, and what business is that of yours, random stranger?

[My daughter shared a rather good little piece on FB about women being told by random blokes to "smile" or "cheer up". Because men have a right not to have to look at a woman who isn't smiling.]

It's funny, when I first started running I measured everything in kms, it made sense to me, 5k, 5m (8k), 10k, it just seemed the right thing to do. Then I trained for the marathon and at some point switched to miles, can't remember when or why I did it.
I was always being told to cheer up. I'm a bloke too, by other women mainly.
