I was given no warning that this would happen when I took it for repair and so had no chance to save them on another device. I might be niaive in not having done this in the past, but I would have expected some warning by PC World that this would/could happen during the repair process. The laptop was still functioning to a point where I could have copied the stuff when I took it in. 😡

They didn't want my recovery disk, but the laptop did have 8.1 when I bought it originally. I did the 10 upgrade.
