Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

I used to work with someone whose response to almost everything was "what?" He was not hard of hearing, but had an issue with paying attention when people spoke to him.

I've just collected my laptop from a repair by PC World to find that all the docs, photos etc that were stored on it have been deleted.
I was given no warning that this would happen when I took it for repair and so had no chance to save them on another device.
I might be niaive in not having done this in the past, but I would have expected some warning by PC World that this would/could happen during the repair process. The laptop was still functioning to a point where I could have copied the stuff when I took it in. 😡

They should be able to get them back for you, I think. Is it the same disk?

They've reinstalled corrupted OS and updated the BIOS Chris, so

I assume not. I have emailed them and patiently await their reply.
I've also realized that it's reverted to Windows 8.1 from 10.

That's not a repair, it's a reset.

From that description i would think it is the same disk and your data has not been wiped from it. Also I think they should get Win 10 back for you, though maybe you supplied them with your own recovery disk for Win 8.1.

Reset or repair; it's all the same to duffers like me who don't have the first idea what to do when it doesn't play ball.
They didn't want my recovery disk, but the laptop did have 8.1 when I bought it originally. I did the 10 upgrade.
