People with dogs on extending leads - when those leads are slightly more than the full width of the pavement. Just why?

@Red Squirrel, how do you stand on people saying "Eurovision" to mean the Eurovision Song Contest, rather than Eurovision itself? Even Wikipedia does it!

Even more bloody annoying is when they walk towards you and don't wind the sodding dog in!

That hadn't occurred to me Charlie because I can't stand it and didn't think about it. Eurovision almost sounds stand-alone for some reason. Hmmm.
Extending leads - should be banned. Wrong for many reasons:
Dog doesn't know if it's on or off lead; no clear boundaries. Dog gets regularly jerked. Dog doesn't learn loose lead. Could run into road. Could run at other dog. Could get tangled with all sorts of things. Potential to wrench lead-holder's wrist. Could break or snap. Other dogs and people can get caught in it because it's hard to see (dogs chasing each other, runners etc).

Susie stole mine. I did actually end up in the pub wearing my PJ top last week. I was wearing a jumper on top, and actually I was one of the more smartly dressed people there

I hate extending leads. I was out for a run yesterday and a woman was out with her dog who leapt at me and I had to jump out into the road to avoid the damn thing! What also annoyed me is she did not apologise or even acknowledge me. She did make some blithe comment to the dog along the lines of "what did you do that for, silly boy?" FFS these people are sooooo wrapped up in their own stupid bubble.

[oh dear, I quite often walk dog on his extending lead and whilst I'm wearing my PJs (under waterproofs) - in defence, when it's dark in the morning and I'm out round the fields, dog can wander through long grass and muddy stuff that makes him happy and I don't have to. Extendable leads are no trouble to anyone as long as dog will recall properly]
