How did you get home RS? That's terrible, do email them and complain.

My dad was waiting with me and he went to get the car. He's a good driver but as he's in his mid-eighties, over the last couple of years, he's decided not to make journeys at night other than locally. He's more affected by road glare, badly lit areas etc, even though he's happy to drive all day by daylight and would think nothing of popping up to Scotland to visit family.
In hindsight I should've booked a taxi and then tried to claim it back.
I was also annoyed for Dad that he couldn't go home to get a well-earned whisky and thaw out after waiting with me for an hour. He's a hardy soul but I had to rub his back as he only had a couple of layers on, expecting to wait with me for 10 mins tops.
It's ridiculous. Was I the only person waiting? What about others needing to get back into Bristol? There might have been some shift workers. This is not the first time it's happened on this route. I stayed over at my folks one time and was late for work. Waited an hour for a bus and then got stuck in rush hour traffic, having gone out for the early bus to avoid it. I cycle in summer but it's pitch black on the back roads and the main road is not safe for a bike in the dark with too many busy junctions.

That's disgusting RS - I agree with fleecy, a strongly worded email is the least the bus company deserve.

RS has your Dad ever had night vision glasses? My dad has, rather infuriatingly for a man who is almost 80, perfect 20/20 vision, but from his late 40s has worn glasses for night driving. They don't have any focus element but reduce the dazzle and distortion of lights in the dark. It might give him some confidence?
It doesn't let the bus company off the hook for being so absent in the least!!

I'm going to copy in both MPs for beginning and end destination, mayor and local council transport office to my letter to FirstBus.
They can't get away with having subsidies and not providing a service. If it was within the inner city, still unacceptable but at least if you're able-bodied you can walk home or get to another bus stop to get you somewhere. If you're not able-bodied well then what?
They're notorious for being shit and luckily I don't have to use them very often because I HATE them!! It's a horrible, unpleasant experience - overcrowded and lurching.
There were 3 accidents in the city yesterday apparently. One affected my colleague and she got home 2 hours later than normal. None of them were on roads affecting where I was returning from and I'd already got out that way by bus, so no excuse.

I'll mention the glasses to Dad, Duchess. That might be useful. He doesn't need to travel much at night as my folks like to chill out at home.
I'm going to look at joining a car club as I can't ever rely on these buses again.

Vegan cheese.
If you want to eat cheese, don't become vegan.
End of.

People who make statements finishing "end of" with the sometime exception of parents dealing with recalcitrant children
(Even if vegan cheese is generally stinky and not in a good way.)
