Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Macca: there was a conference in my field recently which had 4 male keynotes and no females. In a field where women are probably in the majority this is pretty fucking unforgivable, and the response to the Twitter-bombing which ensued was laughable. But I'm betting next year they make more of an effort. God knows what it's like in a male-dominated field.
I've forgotten what I came in here for now :)

"Telephone banking", i.e. spending my friday evening

a) going through a million bloody options just to speak to an operator; except
b) just being kept on hold for 15 minutes

Guardian "lifestyle columnists" like this one who have no clue at all what it is like to be truly alone with no family to turn to yet churn out the same sanctimonious twaddle year after year

Agreed. The Guardian full stop. Used to be a decent paper but is mo cringeingly hand-wringingly corrrect and dull.

Raptors Claws are coming to town
There does appear to be an increasing quantity of blatant drivel and flimsy stuff in The Guardian. And HOW many agony-aunty type columns does it have now? It seems to be full of that sort of stuff.

The abbreviation 'Uni'. Nothing says 'pretentious student wanker' louder....

Isn't being a pretentious wanker part of being a student ? ;-)

To me it's just modesty. "University" sounds so pompous, and even when I was a student at one of those, I called it "college".

University is much too long a word when 2 syllables would suffice :)
