Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

My bad! The explanation is on the website.

As a BM Member it doesn't affect me but I hope for everyone else that the bag drop is reinstated for 2023. They say that the same set up for last year received positive feedback. I do find that surprising as a bag drop is quite important and I have only read the opposite.

Do you remember a few year's back when the kit bags were the size of a small supermarket plastic bag? It was a bitterly cold morning and everyone arrived in shorts as they had nowhere to put their tracksuits, etc. There is the option to use old or charity shop clothes to the start but for many let's just hope that 10 April won't be too chilly first thing.

Reopening for last minute entries for 2022 next week. Have they done that before so late?

Not quite that late. Given that they have record entries and potentially a bit of congestion, I am surprised that they would want to do that.

Course map is out and there are no changes. Personally, I would rather continue out towards Rottingdean (like we all did in error last time) than to go up the Lewes Road and hit that steep hill just before mile 4. A bit less taxing on the legs and it would save the organisers a few quid in road closures around the city.

I was up on the cliffs at Rottingdean the other week and boy did that look a long way back to the power station! :-)

Keep your fingers crossed for the Members baggage van Phil - BM told us this week that because they they've changed the main storage site from the Hilton to marquees on the beach they don't need any van drivers.

So far they don't seem to have realised that one if us drives the baggage van (as well as assorted planned and last minute panic jobs). We were p'd off to start with as they didn't bother to send a thank you email after last year and didn't contact us this year until we nudged them.

I guess they'll realise eventually - we're waiting to see if there's a panic phone call on race day eve at which point we'll tell them to go away!

Thanks for the heads up, JJJ. I have not seen anything on the contrary but I may drop into the Members' Facebook page on a regular basis to see if anything changes.

I don't think anything will change with the baggage van, they just need to realise they need to find someone to drive it!

Tom Naylor interviewed on Jenni Falconer RunPod this week explained that last years ultra :) was because they marked 2 U turns on the way to Rottingdean, 1 for the (cancelled) Bike Ride and 1 for Marathon and used the wrong one - he blames change of people and everyone assuming everyone else had checked.

I've marshalled the U turn out there for the Half the last 3 times and we check, double check, triple check that the cone is on the painted mark. They are quite rightly a bit twitchy about it having been wrong 2 or 3 times! (I wasn't there when it was wrong before anyone asks :) )

Feeling excited now. Training has gone well, did my last long runs last week, and feeling good.
I have Hastings half this weekend to give me an idea of how I've progressed (in glorious sushine!).
Hoping for a sub 4, but will be pleased to go 4.15.

How is everyone else's training going?

All good here Minimag. I’ve been following the training plan on Garmin Connnect which I can highly recommend.
Ran my 3rd fastest 1/2 at Cambridge the weekend before last, with a 20 miler either side, so am also hopeful of a sub 4.
