QoC, migraine can have a lot of triggers. I find I can tolerate some things individually, but in combination they'll cause a migraine. Alcohol, coffee, chocolate are common triggers, but I've also heard of onions, cheese and mushrooms. Personally I avoid mange tout. But things like getting overly tired, not eating, hormones and stress can have an effect too. I think my current streak is 2, but I'm not officially on the wagon yet, so probably won't last. Once I start my streak, I really should see how many days I manage, April to August must be about 100. |

Being in the cutting down but not out camp, we managed a decent attempt at my now named 'damp January' (i.e. no alcohol midweek) while I cant say I feel any better for it or indeed lost any weight, I am happy to have the habit of a glass of wine/G&T/beer to wind down back in check. Last night hubby came home from work rather annoyed, he said it was a good job we were doing damp February otherwise he'd have opened a bottle of wine - I did say he could have one (I don't do rules I'm a rebel) but he said no he was not getting back to the habit of a drink to de-stress. Have to say I don't miss it and finding we're even cutting down at weekends too. |

Well done hubby and you to geordiegirl. Breaking the link between alcohol and stress, anxiety, shyness or using as any kind of coping mechanism, is a good break to make, imho. Grast, sounds good. ![]() |

I'm doing much the same as geodiegirl. But I've noticed an improvement in sleep, it may or may not be related,

Morning all (& congrats to DT on MoTM!) Just spotted this on the Guardian: theguardian.com The part I found most interesting was this: “Hangovers are mostly down to the quantity you drink,” he said. “But there is some research that darker drinks give more severe hangovers because they contain compounds called congeners. They add flavour and character, but it’s thought they can have unpleasant side effects.” He said hangovers appear to be a miserable combination of inflammation, dehydration and low blood sugar levels." I always had a preference for dark ales & red wine, and definitely got unpleasant side effects. Inflammation (big tick!), dehydration (tick!), low blood sugar (tick!) |

I do not miss hangovers! I certainly suffered some whoppers! Out for a Thai meal with 8 colleagues last night. Pub first, sparkling water (me), a coke and half a lager for 3 of us! Then a couple bottles of wine with meal, back to pub. A coke for me. But even though not much wine drunk, they were already doing the old "I've had a few now, so I can tell you this..." type stuff. I left after another half hour or so. Got on the train with zero wait. Comfy seat, back to car in 20 mins and home 15 mins after that. In work at 7.30 this morning for early finish Friday. I love not drinking! ![]() |

I never trust people who claim they don't suffer hangovers ! A few years ago someone was reportedly quite drunk on a Thursday night out which I wasn't at. They appeared on the Friday looking rough and claiming not to have a hangover. A bit later on that day we had a townhall session where we were all standing and it was quite hot. Said person fainted ! |

Two days off, then two days on. I had my Friday night wine last night, so today I will not have a drink.
